If you find it difficult to travel between floors in your home unaided, investing in a stairlift will make a huge difference to your daily life. However, if you are purchasing a stairlift for the first time, you will naturally have some questions about the process.

Before you buy, you need to know about the different options available to you, and you need to know what makes a good stairlift. We have put together this buying guide to address any queries you may have before making your decision:

Straight or curved?

The first thing to consider is what kind of stairlift will be suited to your home. Straight stairlifts are designed for straight flights of stairs, whereas curved stairlifts are individually designed to match the shape of your staircase.

How much do they cost?

Straight stairlifts cost New  £1,195 - £5,000.Reconditioned from £495 For a curved stairlift you'll normally pay between £3,800 up to £15,000, for new and from £2500 for reconditioned  depending on the complexity of the installation. Though there is an initial cost, investing in a stairlift is a cheaper option than moving home or care assistance. We also supply and fit rental stairlifts.

Which manufacturer do you recommend?

DSL Mobility are an independent supplier, meaning we are not affiliated with any particular manufacturer. This means that we can give you honest, impartial advice, and can provide you with a model that meets your requirements perfectly.

Getting a survey

A member of our team will visit you to assess your home and discuss your individual requirements with you in person. We will make a thorough examination of your staircase dimensions and the needs of the user, including their ability to get on and off the stairlift.

If you have any particular requirements, then let us know during the survey to ensure we offer you the device most suited to your needs.

If you or a family member/friend have any questions to ask during the survey we are more than happy to help.

Our initial survey and quotations are provided free of charge, with no obligation to buy.

How are stairlifts powered?

The majority of stairlifts are now battery-powered, meaning if there is a power-cut you will still have full use of your stairlift.

What about noise?

Modern stairlifts are DC powered and run on a low voltage, keeping noise to a minimum, so you will be able to use your stairlift any time of day without disturbing others.

What happens if there is a problem with my stairlift?

The stairlifts we provide are of the highest quality; however, should any problems occur, we provide a 24/7 call-out service, so you can be safe in the knowledge that in the event of any problems, we can take care of it.
